  • Boxing Day - 26 Dec'02 -- A "White Christmas" in Guilin (billed in all its tourist brochures/information as Sub-Tropical), nearly, with the temperatures dropping to record lows of 0 degrees C and with wind chills taking the temps well below freezing it could easily turned Guilin (GL) into having its first every "White Christmas" as it turned out freezing rain and sleet kept all the snow away

  • reply to Death in Yangshuo -- the below reply name is withheld as Yangshuo being directly under the control of Guilin (GL), this is a very sensitive issue with the GL authorities - anything concerning foreigners is a sensitive matter for GL and for that matter for China as a whole. • Death in Yangshuo -- Did anybody else hear about the drowning of a tourist around early September 2002 in Yangshuo, China?? -- Simon - 05:08:21 12/13/02 - simon69@hotmail.com ( 1)
    • Re: Death in Yangshuo -- No one drowned in September but there was a bamboo rafting accident on the spillway in the jin bao river between the Big Banyon Tree and Yangshuo happened around 5 pm 20 August 2002 in which a man aged between 35-45 drowned. He was a visitor from England traveling with the Australian tour company Intrepid staying in hotel Explorer in Yangshuo. As a consequence the guilin authorities have taken control of all the rafting vessels and have arrested the boat driver who at this time is still in jail. -- name and email with held for fear of reprisals from the Chinese authorities - 21:24:33 12/13/02 - ( 0)

  • The Osmanthus -- is a flower native to China and is considered as one of the ten most famous Chinese Flowers. The strong sweet scent of the flowers can travel far and wide.
