    Today: -- THE WORLD AS WE KNOW IT HAS ENDED - the World Trade Center in NY is no more!!!
    Back in Yangshou it doesn't make front page news - though it's all over the TV's, here the concern is on the local govt's implementing of new was to drive the tourists back to Guilin - as a result the whole town goes on strike

    The city -- is spread out in random chaos, with construction all around, but it's a good place to do a little shopping - Beijing Rd is the place to check out - bus #7 from r/r station will get you there -- 01:13:44 09/13/01

    Train, train and train -- to reach Guangzhou, as I walk accross the border the sun brakes through the cloudy skys - a sign of things to come - after a week of constant rain in HK -- 01:08:51 09/13/01

    much change -- HK has changed much since I last visited, with the cost of transport getting costier by the mile - turned into a very tourist un-friendly place -- 01:02:38 09/13/01

    directions to HK -- Direct bus is the easliest way to get there from Guangzhou - cost around HK$150, but shop around and you should be able to get it for $100 - takes about 3 hrs, you still need to get off and on with all bags at border crossings. Trains are the fastest - express train from Guangzhou East Station to Shenzhen (Y70-75) 1 hr, walk across borders, KCR (HK side) at Lo Wu to Kowloon Tung ($33), time 35 mins, for the connecting MTR (subway) to anywhere in HK -- 02:44:00 09/11/01

  • Thur 30 Aug - Guangzhou - China - bill -
    Arrived Guangzhou -- 6:30am by overnite sleeper bus*, left Yangshou 4:30pm yesterday. Another slow bus stopping to pickup everything from 100's of live ducks, bags of chestnuts and of course people.

    *bus that has double bed bunks instead of seats - cost Y70 (Yangshou-Guangzhou) -- 02:31:09 09/11/01

    Backpackers paradise -- lots to do here: swimming, caving, climbing, canoeing, biking, walking, shopping - the list just goes on and on -- 02:25:09 09/11/01

    Smaller and friendlier -- then Guilin set around the Li River between the craggy limestone mountains that this area is famous for, with hotels named after places like: Fawlty Towers, Twin Peaks, Planet Yangshou -- 04:35:48 09/09/01

    Arrived -- Guilin but decided not to stay, going instead to Yangshou 1 half hours further south -- 04:31:06 09/09/01
