Longsheng
      Just
a little more than 2 hours, northwest of Guilin, is Longsheng the
"Gateway" to the 880 meter high "Dragon
Backbone Terraced Rice Fields" a testament to the power
of rice growing.
      From the top
of Pingan village, at just 29 km south of
Longsheng you can see this breathtaking view snaking it's way following
the contours of the surrounding hills and mountains. Just as if you were
standing on the contours of a hiking map.
      These amazing
rice terraces began life in the Yuan Dynasty (1279-1644) and it wasn't
until the beginning of the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911) that the terraces
you see today was completed.

The
road goes through mountainous areas and is narrow and very, very
twisty and accidents on the Public Transport are frequent. It is
advisable to use it at your own risk!
